NHL insider Elliotte Friedman recently revealed that Connor Bedard is unhappy with the Blackhawks' poor start and the Oilers are rumored to be a trade partner. As a first-overall pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023, star youngster Connor Bedard is familiarizing himself with lofty expectations from him, even on a rebuilding team. Yet, for all his precocious brilliance at 19, Bedard seems to grow increasingly frustrated with the meager progress his team has shown on the ice. It came to a head during a tussle with Dallas Stars defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin in a rare unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. After the two became entangled near the blue line, Lyubushkin's stick fell from his grasp, and Bedard, clearly aggravated, kicked it away.

The Blackhawks ended up losing that game 3-1, and the scene drove home Bedard's frustration this year navigating a difficult season with a team nowhere close to playoff contention. With Chicago off to a less-than-ideal 5-9-1 mark to begin the 2024-25 season, some speculation has begun to work its way into the rumor mill. The Blackhawks want to get some talent around Bedard as quickly as possible, according to NHL insiders like Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. During a recent episode of the 'Oilers Now' podcast, Friedman suggested that Chicago may look to move out defenseman Connor Murphy, a player who could ignite a trade deal with the Edmonton Oilers.

It has been suggested that Jeff Skinner, so far not finding his groove in Edmonton, could be shipped out to Chicago to at least provide Bedard something more in the way of offense. It wouldn't be a clean trade, with some cap moves likely to occur as the finances square, but both sides can benefit. Skinner is off to a slow start this year and could find revitalization with a new opportunity beside Bedard; meanwhile, Edmonton can fortify its back end. Adding a proven scorer into the mix like Jeff Skinner could lighten some of the frustrations for Bedard and allow him to see a bit brighter future being a leader for the Blackhawks.
