Tonight's the night that everyone has been waiting for, as the Canucks and Oilers are set for their rematch, and Rick Tocchet threw some major shade at Edmonton.

The Edmonton Oilers and their fans are irate at the NHL for the three-game suspension handed down to team captain Connor McDavid following his cross-check on Vancouver Canucks winger Conor Garland.

Rick Tocchet doesn't care what Oilers fans think or say

But Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet doesn't have any sympathy for them. McDavid started serving his suspension Tuesday in Edmonton's 3-2 loss to the league-leading Washington Capitals.

«[Garland] held a guy, so is that Wanted posters? I mean, I understand if he smashed him in the face or got in a fight, or did something It's a hold,» Tocchet told reporters Wednesday. «So I don't really care what they think.»

The Oilers put out a statement before the game that they were disappointed with the decision, and teammates like Leon Draisaitl and Corey Perry spoke up.

The incident occurred in a game between the Pacific Division rivals on Saturday. McDavid cross-checked Garland while he was being held late in the third period and was given a match penalty.

A scrum broke out with Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers receiving a penalty for cross-checking Evan Bouchard. McDavid and Myers were both given three-game suspensions on Monday.

The Oilers and Canucks meet again tonight, and Tocchet brushed off the potential for any lingering bad blood.

«There is no vengeance. It's just two points for us.»

Meanwhile, the Canucks lost their own Tuesday game, 3-2 to the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver is 20-16-10, a point behind the second Western Conference wildcard position and 11 back of the Oilers, who are second in the Pacific.
