Former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tyson Barrie is still without an NHL offer. He spent three productive seasons with the Oilers after being traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs. However it was the next time he was traded which proved fatal. Since he was dealt to the Nashville Predators in 2023, in exchange for Mattias Ekholm, it's marked the beginning of the end. Injuries and a significant drop in point production have now left him unsigned. With most teams having already allocated their cap space, Barrie might need to accept a reduced salary. It's hard to see why he's unsigned in the eyes of reporter Jim Matheson. I don't get the league-wide unhappiness with Tyson Barrie. He can still run a PP from the point and play in third pairing for cheap money as UFA. There are a lot of average to mediocre PPs in this league. And yetcrickets.

Others were quick to respond with his limitations. Tyson Barrie is a good offensive defenceman. He's good. Not great. But that's all he is. He's a defensive liability and is a turnover machine in his own end. Why do you think there is unhappiness with him?

Another pointed out Barrie wouldn't be effective in any power play system. He is a decent PP quarterback, but the issue is he is not better than any teams current PP1 guys and he can't really fill a 3rd pairing role on any decent team. I still think a San Jose or Chicago could pick him up just for being a good locker room guy.

For now, the 32 year-old must remain patient, hoping that his agent will secure a call and a new deal and opportunity soon.
