It's official, the New York Rangers have finally traded away their captain Jacob Trouba after months of speculation, as this saga continued to drag on.

The New York Rangers have been trying to find ways to move Jacob Trouba since summer. Though initial reports suggested that he would invoke his no-trade clause to block the move, by Friday, it became a foregone conclusion.

Everyone knew a trade was close when it was announced at 2pm that Jacob Trouba was not placed on waivers, further fueling trade speculation.

Things picked up when Pierre LeBrun reported that a deal with the Anaheim Ducks was all but complete. Shortly after, Larry Brooks of the 'New York Post' confirmed the two teams had a deal in place.

The $8 million cap hit Trouba carries this season and next made a trade difficult, but the Ducks, a rebuilding team with ample cap space, emerged as a logical trade partner for the Rangers.

Even though it was not the end, clearly, Jacob Trouba played his last game as a Ranger, even though details of the trade will be officially announced shortly. It is time now for the former captain to head west to join the Anaheim Ducks.

Full details of the trade when they are made official, such as the return package the Rangers will receive, will be revealed in due course.

Update: The return package has been announced.
