The London Knights, fresh off their OHL championship win, are heading into the Memorial Cup games without one of their key players, Landon Sim. The St Louis Blues prospect and 2022 6th round pick (184th overall) , was slapped with a five game suspension for using some choice language in the Conference finals. Sim served four games in the OHL finals where London swept Oshawa and will miss the beginning of the Memorial Cup which begins on May 28th at the host Saginaw Spirit. <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/hockeyfights/status/1790864531121377704'> </a></blockquote></div> His language wouldn't usually get you benched, but times have changed. People are up in arms about it, especially considering how hockey culture has evolved. <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/yegrguy/status/1790899760305770601'> </a></blockquote></div> Fans chimed in, expressing their disgust with the OHL's decision to suspend this man at the pinnacle of his team's season. They've been calling the suspension soft and just plain ludicrous. <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/yegrguy/status/1790899760305770601'> </a></blockquote></div> <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/dohtavi/status/1790886129589174293'> </a></blockquote></div> <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/cb2444/status/1790881151093244249'> </a></blockquote></div> Some even found humor in the situation, pointing out the irony of the OHL laying down the law right before the Knights hit the ice for the Memorial Cup. Others defended the decision saying the league had no choice. <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/snmarcellus/status/1790904555166650596'> </a></blockquote></div> <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/johnmcc11149469/status/1790890281883062361'> </a></blockquote></div> Respect is earned, not given, and a priority out there, but hockey isn't known for being a game of roses and sunshine. It's tough, it's gritty, and yeah, sometimes there's a bit of chirping involved. Sure, the word used by Sim wasn't exactly the pinnacle of sportsmanship, but is it worth suspending a player for? Especially when you consider that some other, more severe infractions get lesser punishment. <div align='center'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/slynnrotth/status/1790940887394238517'> </a></blockquote></div> You have to wonder what the OHL is trying to prove with this suspension. The hope is Sim, who had 10 goals and 29 points in 39 games, in a season which also saw him miss time due to a shoulder injury, will come back strong and help his boys reach their goal of becoming Memorial Cup champions.
