James van Riemsdyk and the Seattle Kraken have reportedly agreed on a PTO for the veteran forward to get a chance to make the team out of training camp. Van Riemsdyk was one player who many assumed would have an opportunity earlier in the offseason. He waited for the perfect place where he could earn a contract as it became obvious that no team would extend him a guaranteed deal. He eclipsed the 1,000-game plateau with the Bruins last season, which they honored in a game against his longtime team, the Philadelphia Flyers. Van Riemsdyk has been a valuable scorer in his career with 629 points. The Kraken turned heads in the 2022-23 season when they knocked off the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs. They regressed in 2023-24 and failed to make the postseason, but a turnaround year from Matty Beniers and more experience for some of their other younger players could get them back into contention in 2024-25.
