Tonight the Toronto Maple Leafs kick off game 2 of their NHL season but they will do so without Ryan Reaves as Craig Berube has decided to scratch the veteran forward.

Game one of the NHL season for the Toronto Maple Leafs was clearly not good enough. The Maple Leafs struggled to find offense and did not play with the overall grit and toughness that many expected. Part of their lack of physicality has now been blamed on Ryan Reaves.

Last night Ryan Reaves was expected to set the tone against the Montreal Canadiens. A lot of his responsibility was to manage the momentum of the game and to also keep Canadiens enforcer Arber Xhekaj in check. When the time came to stand up to Xhekaj and give his team momentum Reaves backed away instead.

This was criticized by Toronto Maple Leafs fans at the time and seen as a major problem if Ryan Reaves was going to be in the lineup. The Maple Leafs would go on to lose last night's game after a fantastic performance from the Montreal Canadiens goaltender.

The fans of course want to see a change ahead of the Maple Leafs second game and Sheldon Keefe seems to agree as he has decided to make a major lineup change involving Ryan Reaves.

Ryan Reaves likely to be scratched in Game 2 of the Maple Leafs season

According to reports from the Toronto Maple Leafs morning skate Ryan Reaves was seen doing extra work on the ice individually. He was along with the other expected scratches for tonight's game. As a result, it is now projected that Bobby McMann will come into the lineup for the Maple Leafs instead.

With Ryan Reaves out the Maple Leafs will look to take a more skilled and well-rounded approach against the New Jersey Devils. The Devils led by former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe play more of a finesse game and do not have big enforcers like Arber Xhekaj to worry about.

The goaltending situation will continue to be something to watch throughout the season now with Joseph Woll out. Woll was placed on injured reserve yesterday with a lower-body injury. In his place, Anthony Stolarz will once again get the nod tonight against the New Jersey Devils.

The move by Craig Berube to take out Ryan Reaves is his first big shake-up of the season let's see if it ends up paying off.
