Legendary NHL GM Doug Maclean was on the Kyper & Bourne show and recently stated that Nazem Kadri could realistically return to the Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs need a bold move to fuel a deep playoff run, and one name stands out: Nazem Kadri. For the Toronto Maple Leafs, center depth is non-existent, and the injuries have made things that much worse. With the playoffs in full view, the urge for a trade is apparent, and Brad Treliving, the Leafs' GM, has to be feeling it. Former NHL GM Doug MacLean added on 'The Real Kyper and Bourne Podcast' that Kadri might be just what the doctor ordered in Toronto. «If you're going to play against teams in the playoffs-Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, Rangers-you need a player like Kadri. MacLean boldly stated. I know some people in Toronto think McLennan is clueless, but I'm telling you, if I'm Brad Treliving and I hear they're kicking. If Toronto gets Kadri and they face Florida or other playoff teams, it's going to be a different series.» tires; I heard today they were kicking tires there. Treliving has his hands full.

Past issues with Kadri in Toronto and current concerns for Calgary aside, MacLean thinks Kadri could take the Leafs from hopefuls into a true Stanley Cup contender. Would Kadri fit in Toronto? Absolutely. Since leaving the Leafs, Kadri has developed into an elite player, recording 296 points in 362 games with Colorado and Calgary, including that remarkable 2021-22 season in which he recorded 87 points and lifted the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup. His playoff production, 34 points in 33 games during that run, proves he rises to the occasion. Kadri's return would fill a number of needs for the Leafs. He could anchor the third line with rising talents such as Fraser Minten and Nikita Grebenkin or go back to sparkling chemistry with fellow veterans like Max Domi and Max Pacioretty. His versatility, including contributing 20-30 goals, would be very important assets toward Toronto's depth and playoff aspirations.

However, obstacles remain. Kadri's past frustrations with the Leafs, outlined in his book 'Dreamer: My Life On The Edge', may weigh on his decision. Calgary's willingness to part ways with Kadri is another question, especially given Treliving's history with the Flames. It's this possible return to Toronto, where the NHL journey for Kadri first began, that might turn the Leafs into an entrenched contender. The call, though, ultimately lies with Kadri himself and the Flames.
