The Toronto Maple Leafs have been forced to call up forward Alex Steeves on an emergency basis for tonight's game as the team faces a ton of injuries. On Saturday, the Toronto Marlies played the Charlotte Checkers and it was tied well into the third period. Alex Steeves stepped up, scoring his second of the game for the winning goal, and was named the game's first star. On Sunday, the two teams faced off again. This time, Toronto was behind 4-2 going into the third, but Steeves got his team within one with an early third-period marker. With just over four minutes remaining, he then scored the equalizer, his second of the night, to force overtime, where the Marlies ultimately fell short. His efforts earned him the second star of the week and helped Toronto grab three out of four possible points for the weekend. This fantastic performance has just earned him a call-up to the NHL, as the Leafs have been forced to make an emergency recall for tonight's game against the Ottawa Senators as they are dealing with a ton of injuries.

In the time under Sheldon Keefe, Steeves has hardly received any chances to make an impact at the NHL level. He's been called up to the Maple Leafs a total of four times over the past three seasons, playing seven games with a single point to show for it. Fans will keep an eye on him to see if he is able to make a difference this time around. The timing of all of these injuries could not have come at a worse time for the Leafs as they are set to take part in the first installment of the Battle of Ontario tonight. Hopefully, the team will be able to come together tonight despite all this adversity.
