According to Simmons the Maple Leafs are still big fans of Trouba's game and would love to trade for him if another team would be willing to take on some retained salary. Leafs management likes big defenceman Jacob Trouba, the recently traded Rangers captain. And they might have some interest in Trouba, if Anaheim or somebody else eats a lot of salary, at the deadline. While this clearly is not an imminent move for the Maple Leafs it is one that could be made in the coming months if the Anaheim Ducks find themselves firmly out of contention. To Land Trouba the Maple Leafs would likely have to give up a package similar to that of the Ducks if not more due to the salary that would likely be retained. That would mean the trade package would at least include a young roster player and likely a 2nd to third-round pick. It remains to be seen if Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs would end up pulling the trigger on a deal like this or not but Trouba is the prototype for defensemen the Maple Leafs have gone for in recent years.
