Today Auston Matthews spoke to the media and flamed the Toronto media members for starting rumors and speculation about the severity of his injury.

Auston Matthews suffered an injury almost a month ago now that was supposed to keep him out day to day.

Instead, Auston Matthews missed essentially the entire month of November while receiving various treatments for the injury he suffered.

One of those treatments led Auston Matthews all the way to Germany where he met with a specialist.

While GM Brad Treliving made it seem like this trip was no big deal it did end up delaying Auston Matthews in returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup.

With his return finally coming later tonight Auston Matthews addressed the media and spoke about the mass speculation regarding his injury

In recent days Toronto Maple Leafs reporter Steve Simmons decided to dig into Auston Matthews' trip to Germany for his injury.

In his discovery, Steve Simmons explored the doctor in Germany's specialties and started a ton of speculation over what Auston Matthews' injury could be.

In Germany, sources indicated the suspicion was it was either a back injury or a wrist injury," wrote Simmons. "Muller-Wohlfarht is well-known, also, for his work with knee injuries and with soft-tissue injuries.

This report from Steve Simmons seems to have gotten back to Auston Matthews and he decided to vent laying into the Toronto media for adding fuel to the fire.

I don't think there's really any secrecy. Like, I don't think we did anything outside of the rules of providing information to you guys in the NHL. So I think it just gets a little blown out of proportion with the marketplace and you guys being a little bit nosey. But, in my mind, we haven't done anything secret.

He continues and talks about how every other team in the NHL also keeps injuries as vague as possible and ultimately it is his decision to tell us as much as he wants.

I think it's my choice whether or not I'm going to share the extent of injury. You look around the league, lower-body injury, upper-body injury on every single team. I think it's just been made out to be a bigger deal than it is, Matthews insisted. I don't really care. It's up for you guys to talk about it and do your thing. But, you know, in the end, I'm just going to focus on myself and focus on the team and being the best that I can.

Luckily Auston Matthews won't have to deal with the speculation and questions regarding his injury much longer as he returns to the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
