The Toronto Maple Leafs have a very top heavy roster, and while Marshall Rifai won't be the answer, he will now serve as solid depth for this team over two years.

This off-season, Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs have made several additions to their blue line, with Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson helping to boost a group that struggled many times throughout the 2023/24 campaign. One name that the Maple Leafs tried out during that run was Marshall Rifai, an undrafted college free agent that played his role well with the Toronto Marlies, as he ultimately played two games with the team a year ago.

Now, the team have rewarded his solid play at the AHL level, as they announced on social media that they have extended Rifai for two years.

At 26-years of age, Rifai has played in 128 games at the AHL level, and over that time he has six goals and 189 penalty minutes as he looks to make his mark on the game in any way possible. While this is a good deal for the player, it's simply a depth move for the Maple Leafs, who look to be beginning the 2024/25 season with Rielly, Tanev, Benoit, Ekman-Larsson, Liljegren and McCabe as their blue line group on a team desperate for a Stanley Cup.

However, we saw the injury bug strike the blue line a year ago, and if that happens again, they need quality depth, so while Rifai may never be an NHL regular, if they need someone to call upon for solid minutes, he will be there for a further two years to play that role.
