The offseason has been productive for the Toronto Maple Leafs but the team has not acquired a big-time forward so far but a new mock trade could change that.

The Toronto Maple Leafs came into the 2024 offseason with several needs. After firing head coach Sheldon Keefe and hiring Craig Berube the changes could begin. Since then the team has added stars like Chris Tanev on defense.

Despite this big addition on defense many have been hoping for bigger changes to the forwards. Early in the offseason, a Mitch Marner trade seemed likely. Now fans have shifted their focus to the addition of a difference-maker forward.

This evening a new mock trade has been discovered that could satisfy fans bringing in a highly touted forward to the lineup.

Mock trade sends an all-star forward from Anaheim to Toronto

A new mock trade put together on PuckPedia has sparked interest amongst Maple Leafs fans. The trade would send 2024 all-star Ryan Strome and former second-round pick Brett Leason to the Maple Leafs. In return the Anaheim Ducks would get Timothy Liljegren, prospect Topi Niemela, and a 2025 second-round pick (via Florida).

Maple Leafs get:

Ryan Strome
Brett Leason
Ducks get:

Timothy Liljegren
Topi Niemela
2025 second-round pick (Florida's)

Ryan Strome last season during his all-star campaign put up 41 points in 79 games. Throughout his career, he has consistently had around 40-50 points playing for various teams. Brett Leason is a bottom-six forward who provides size and physicality to the depth of the lineup.

The Maple Leafs would be giving up significant defensive depth in this trade. Firstly consistent top-four defenseman Timothy Liljegren would be heading out of town. At 25 years old Timothy Liljegren is one of the youngest defensemen on the roster. They also would lose one of their most NHL-ready prospect defensemen in Topi Niemela.

This trade would satisfy a major need that the Maple Leafs fans have been clamoring for. They would also give up significant depth on defense which has been a position of major focus this summer. As of now, this is just a fan mock trade but if it ever becomes real the fan response would be incredibly interesting to follow.
