This afternoon it was announced that John Tavares was placed on injured reserve due to an injury and now an analyst has given his ominous opinion on the severity of the injury. Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs surprised everyone by announcing that John Tavares had been placed on injured reserve, and Fraser Minten had been called up to replace him. With Tavares suffering the frustrating injury during practice, not much is actually known about the severity and recovery time that Tavares will face going forward. We have not gotten an official update from the Maple Leafs but former Maple Leaf and current NHL analyst Mike Johnson spoke on what he believes Tavares is dealing with.
NHL analyst gives his worrying analysis of John Tavares' injury
During a new segment on First Up former NHLer and current analyst Mike Johnson spoke about Tavares' injury. According to Johnson, he believes there could be a potential for several different significant injuries. Johnson believes the range of outcomes for Tavares' injury can go from a pulled muscle in his hamstring or groin all the way up to potentially a strained MCL. If I fell in spot like that, I'm like there goes my hammy (hamstring), there goes my groin, or there goes my knee, because my body can't move the way that it's probably otherwise moved to get out of a situation like that, Johnson said. I was like, that's a pulled hamstring, pulled groin or a strained MCL ... It's no good, no good at all. All of these possibilities of course are not good for the Maple Leafs and Tavares but a muscle pull is clearly a step below potential issues with ligaments in his knee. If Tavares has suffered a significant injury then the focus becomes having him ready for the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Craig Berube along with Brad Treliving will need to carefully evaluate Tavares' recovery plan. As of now, things are still being evaluated by the Maple Leafs medical staff but the fact that Tavares was essentially placed on injured reserve within a day of falling at practice is not a good look.

When the Toronto Maple Leafs provide a further update on Tavares' injury and upcoming recovery we will pass along the latest information to you.
