Rogers Communications just purchased a majority share of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment from Bell, expect changes to be coming.

This purchase of 37.5% of the Maple Leafs puts Rogers Communication into a majority shareholder position. The deal went down with Rogers buying their stake in the team for $4.7 billion (Canadian), which is approximately $3.48 billion USD.

The Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) is a parent company that includes both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the NBA team Toronto Raptors as well as MLS' Toronto FC.

With this purchase, Rogers places the value of MLSE at $9.3 billion. Rogers also owns the Toronto Blue Jays with Sportico valuing the franchise at $2.27 billion. Larry Tanenbaum will retain his 25% ownership in MLSE.

In the past Bell and Rogers have come together to purchase MLSE from the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan back in 2012.

TSN obtained this comment from the CEO of Bell and was able to obtain this comment about the purchase.

"We are proud of our time as co-owners of these iconic sports teams, and through this agreement have ensured that fans can count on Bell's continued support of their teams," Mirko Bibic, president and CEO of BCE Inc. and Bell Canada said. "Today's announcement demonstrates that we are focused on creating the financial flexibility to support our ongoing transformation and core growth drivers."

It appears that this purchase could have future implications for the team down the road. For now, Rogers and BCE are looking to work together for the best future moving forward.
