Mike Hoffman signed a professional tryout contract with one of the top Stanley Cup contenders in the NHL. Following a few rough years with the Montreal Canadiens and the San Jose Sharks, the 34-year-old veteran forward Mike Hoffman has officially reached a deal with the Edmonton Oilers. The insider Elliotte Friedman shared the news with the following post on X:

Hoffman will look to bring his experience and natural goal-scoring talent to the already packed Oilers lineup. With a PTO, the Oilers organization opted for a low-risk option. Hoffman, who's been offering underwhelming performances for the past four seasons (never scoring over 20 goals or 40 points), has a small chance of being part of the team on opening night. Even if the Oilers lost Dylan Holloway earlier this summer, they made interesting additions to fill the holes in the forward group with Jeff Skinner, Viktor Arvidsson, and the extensions of Corey Perry, Leon Draisaitl, and Adam Henrique. In his career, Hoffman has often been considered a powerplay specialist because of his great one-timer shot. We can't imagine him taking on Leon Draisaitl's role, but he could, however, be in the mix for a role in the second powerplay unit and the bottom-six. The Oilers' training camp will be interesting to follow. Make sure to stay tuned for any stories that could emerge from Edmonton in the coming weeks!
