Darren Ferris is an NHL player agent for Filip Zadina and he confirmed that three teams are closing in on acquiring him, including the Maple Leafs. Filip Zadina entered this season of 2024-25 still a free agent, following the departure of his club, the San Jose Sharks, which did not extend him an offer. Zadina was coming off his highest-scoring season yet, with 13 goals and 10 assists in 72 games, so many thought he might seal a PTO deal. There were also rumors that the Buffalo Sabres were going to sign him.

Agent Darren Ferris clarified all the confusion by quoting, Zadina is close to inking his NHL contract, but it isn't with the Sabres. In fact, this story has also been confirmed by Buffalo News. It appears that Zadina was linked with the Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Though selected as a high draft pick, 6th overall by the Detroit Red Wings, to date, Filip Zadina has yet to achieve his full potential, registering 41 goals and 50 assists in 262 games played. Still only 24, time remains for him to truly carve out an NHL career, albeit possibly as a bottom-six forward. At the end of it all, Filip Zadina can be looked upon as nothing more than another right-winger who shoots left-handed. The positional flexibility he has cements him as a good addition for anyone looking to add a little depth to their left side. That in itself, in a way, makes him more of a fit with Toronto, as the Leafs are very thin at the left-hand position. If they can get him at a bargain, Zadina would fit in rather well in the Leafs lineup.
