After being called up recently from the AHL Maple Leafs forward Alex Nylander has struggled and has now been called out by head coach Craig Berube. Alex Nylander signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization this summer on an AHL deal with the Toronto Marlies, hoping to earn a call-up to play with his brother William Nylander.

After a couple of months in the AHL, playing 14 games and scoring 12 points, Alex Nylander earned an NHL contract and was called up to the Maple Leafs.

Since being called up to the NHL, Alex Nylander has played four games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and has not scored a point this season. Considering Alex Nylander is an offensively inclined player having no points in 4 games is a clear disappointment. Now tonight Alex Nylander's disappointing play has led him to be scratched by the Toronto Maple Leafs and led to some harsh comments from Craig Berube.
Craig Berube calls out Alex Nylander for his sluggish start in the NHL
Multiple reports have confirmed that Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves will return to the lineup after serving his suspension for a hit on Darnell Nurse. With Ryan Reaves coming in Alex Nylander is now coming out of the lineup and will now be a scratch.

With this change being made Craig Berube spoke to the media and was incredibly honest about Alex Nylander's play and why a change was made.

While Craig Berube believes Alex Nylander has played okay he clearly has not lived up to the standards that many had hoped when he was inserted into the lineup. Now the waiting game begins to see whether Alex Nylander gets another NHL opportunity with the Toronto Maple Leafs or if he is sent back to the AHL to play with the Toronto Marlies.
