NHL insider Elliotte Friedman was first to report this evening that the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed NCAA free agent Jacob Quillan out of Quinnipiac University. The center will join the Marlies for the rest of the season. Quinnipiac's season just came to an end when they lost 5-4 in overtime to Boston College. As such, players were available to sign with NHL clubs should they want to. Notably, Quillan did have two goals in what turned out to be his last ever NCAA game. There is word Toronto is signing Dartmouth, NS native Jacob Quillan out of Quinnipiac. His entry-level deal will not kick in until next season. Quillan will join AHL Marlies on an ATO for rest of this season

Quillan had 38 goals and 93 points in 106 career games with Quinnipiac University. the majority of those points came in his final two years with the team where he was just under a point-per-game and then just over a point-per-game respectively. 🖊 We've signed forward Jacob Quillan to a two-year entry-level contract

Perhaps the single biggest highlight of Quillan's career so far is when he scored in overtime last year to secure the men's NCAA national championship over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Hopefully more special moments like this are in his future with the Maple Leafs.

Source DailyHockeyDose: Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Top NCAA Free Agent Forward Prospect
