A massive trade proposal sends stud defenseman Colton Parayko to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Despite the Maple Leafs' great summer acquisitions on the blue line with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Chris Tanev, Brad Treliving, the general manager of the team, could be looking to further bolster his defensive unit before the start of the 2024-25 NHL season. He has multiple interesting trade assets, and parting ways with a few of them could bring a significant return to the team. A new report shared a proposal with the St. Louis Blues, where the Leafs would get the veteran defenseman Colton Parayko in return for four players: Timothy Liljegren, Fraser Minten, Nicholas Robertson, and David Kampf. Considering that the Leafs don't have as many draft picks as they'd like, they would surely aim to trade players instead of picks to bolster the team for the season. The opportunity to reunite Parayko and Berube, who won the Stanley Cup together in 2019 with the Blues, could be tempting for Treliving, but he'll need to be careful not to overpay for the player, as we've seen many times in Treliving's trade history. Let's not forget that he traded superstar Matthew Tkachuk for the underwhelming Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar, one of the worst NHL trades in recent years, back when he was general manager of the Calgary Flames.
