A proposition has been made that the NHL rename the Lady Byng trophy in Johnny Gaudreau's name to honor the former Columbus Blue Jackets player.

JFresh of EPRinkside believes the Lady Byng name should be retired because the media, and not the NHLPA, vote for the trophy. To date, the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy awarded to the NHL player with the fewest penalties is the only trophy that Johnny Gaudreau has won in his career.

JFresh proposes a new trophy, to be called the Gaudreau Trophy, to be voted on by the players in the NHL. The proposal follows one of the saddest moments ever to be recorded in the history of the NHL, where Jonny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were murdered on August 29th by what authorities described as an apparent drunk driver as they cycled on a two-lane highway in New Jersey.

The late star of the Calgary Flames spent most of his career in Calgary until he became an unrestricted free agent and opted to join the Columbus Blue Jackets. In his last season, he played 81 games, where he recorded 12 goals, and 48 assists for a total of 60 points, and only had 22 penalty minutes.

It's fitting that the NHL should recognize the Gaudreau name in some fashion, whether that be through a new trophy or another form of recognition, this needs to be league-wide and one that remembers him throughout history within the NHL.
