The Canucks are not in the mood to trade for a rental but rather are looking for hidden-gem, under-the-radar type of centermen that can be with them for many years.

With the trade deadline coming up just a few days away, the Vancouver Canucks have a few choices to make. Just outside of the second Wild Card spot, they remain in playoff contention after a disastrous road trip, where they won only one of five.

That being said, they do not seem to be selling in a big way or trading for rental players. Instead, the Canucks are seeking to become competitive in the present.

"Vancouver is not interested in the rental market, they're really not, and Vancouver needs players to come back and be impactful," said TSN's Darren Dreger on the Sekeres and Price podcast.

They will not take a typical deadline offer of future assets if they deal Brock Boeser, as help is needed now, specifically up front.

Recent poor offense in the past month reinforces their scoring depth shortage, and with J.T. Miller gone and Elias Pettersson underperforming, center depth is an area of concern as well.

The Canucks are looking for off the trade board players

"I've heard some stuff that Vancouver most definitely is targeting centres that we haven't speculated on, that are not on a trade bait list," continued Dreger.

NHL insider Darren Dreger indicated that Vancouver wants to add reinforcements and not trade Pettersson. Teams like the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins could be interested in a trade.

Josh Norris or Trent Frederic are players who could suit the Canucks' needs, but nothing serious has been heard about them.

Meanwhile, defenceman Carson Soucy has come up in trade discussions. Since the Marcus Pettersson addition, Soucy lost his normal spot in the lineup.

His no-movement clause complicates a trade, but Vancouver could package him along with prospects for a good return.

The trade market remains open, and general manager Patrik Allvin has plenty of options. Whatever he does leading up to Friday's deadline could have a huge effect on the Canucks' playoff push.
