NHL insider Elliotte Friedman added a bit more fuel to the fire with his latest update on the JT Miller and Elias Pettersson situation, and things are pretty bad. It feels like Elias Pettersson and JT Miller are involved in one of the more extreme feuds between teammates in recent memory. While Canucks fans have long known about the feud that has taken place in Vancouver between the two, the situation is now receiving league-wide attention around the NHL. It's not new to people that follow the Canucks that (Miller) and Pettersson have a unique relationship to say the least, but three things have brought it back to the forefront right now. Number one, the Canucks thought they had this resolved last year. The team had a great year, both players had great years, and they thought they had moved past this. Obviously, that wasn't the case. Number two, it has bled into the way that they play on the ice and that can't happen. You can't have it affect the way the team and the players are playing and number three, this is probably the most important one, it has started to take its toll on the other people in the organization; the players, the coaching staff, and the hockey operations department. On Friday night, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman updated the ongoing situation during a segment of Hockey Night in Canada, saying the Canucks came into this season thinking the problem was fixed. It does not seem anywhere close to that now. Elliotte Friedman also spoke to potential paths forward for the team. The Canucks would love to keep both guys, as both bring elite talent to the table. Friedman said that may no longer be an option, even going as far as to say the team could trade one, including mentioning Pettersson to the Buffalo Sabres. In a perfect world, the Canucks number one choice, by far, is that Pettersson and Miller both remain long-term players in the organization. They are both excellent players and the Canucks have a better chance to win with them. They expect them to have a professional working relationship though. If yes, they can do it, then they don't have a problem here. If no, I don't think there's a timeline here, but I think everyone realizes that eventually, something is going to have to give. - Elliotte Friedman

Of course, that will be the main decision for the team, as Miller apparently is perceived as the more problematic figure in the locker room. Everybody knows about Pettersson's frustration with Miller, so it would seem like much of the team has sided with the Swedish forward, which would make a trade involving him almost counterproductive. But for now, of course, the details remain behind closed doors. The actions of the Canucks will be under scrutiny as the weeks go by.
