Not everyone is happy about the J.T. Miller trade, and a former Canuck and ex-NHL star has revealed his honest opinion on the trade, and he's fuming. Former NHLer, ex-Canuck, and ex-Flame Shane O'Brien surely did not mince words as he weighed in on the Vancouver Canucks trading J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers.
O'Brien calls the Miller trade horrendous
On 'Missin Curfew' Episode 360, O'Brien dubbed the move horrendous, adding that to lose Miller was just too much and management in the Canucks organization clearly had made a big mistake. Listen, from what I heard, he (Miller) finally had enough, O'Brien said. So, to Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin, to do the right thing for JT Miller, I guess you got to commend them, right? I mean, he did have a full no-move. He wanted to go to New York... But when you go on a pure hockey trade, this is a horrendous trade. The Vancouver Canucks are not going to come back from this. I feel bad for Rick Tocchet. I feel bad for every...Canucks fan that was so fired up last year. When we were there, they were one win away from taking out the Edmonton Oilers. They had so many great things going.

Miller, 31, had 11 goals and 28 assists in 43 games this season prior to the trade. He was in the third year of a seven-year, $56 million contract when Vancouver moved him. The Canucks sent Miller, Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington to the Rangers for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini and a 2025 first-round pick. He's been flying since rejoining the team that drafted him in 2011, scoring four points in three games, including a two-goal debut.

Canuck's president Jim Rutherford did admit that Miller's rocky relationship with Elias Pettersson caused some locker room issues despite several attempts to get them straightened out. O'Brien acknowledged the reported tensions but argued the Canucks were on the rise, nearly knocking off the Oilers in last year's playoffs. Because of a feud between two guys or whatever the hell happened, this hockey team has taken a step back. JT Millers don't grow on trees. Petey, your time is now, bud. Let's see what you can do. You got your way. It's now your hockey team, O'Brien said. He said he was disappointed for the fans and coach Rick Tocchet, adding the trade substantially weakened the team.
O'Brien calls the Canucks the softest team in the entire league
The Vancouver Canucks are the softest team in the National Hockey League now after getting rid of JT Miller....You do not replace a JT Miller. - Shane O'Brien He went so far as to call the Canucks the softest team in the NHL after the trade. Vancouver enters Thursday at 24-18-11, good for fourth in the Pacific Division.
