Today during a press conference Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel took a shot at the media for being too critical of his players this season for no reason.

The Winnipeg Jets currently sit in first place in the Western Conference 7 points ahead of the next closest team in the conference.

Despite their success on the ice, the Jets' wins have mostly been credited to the fantastic play of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck this season.

With Hellebuyck being so fantastic this season most of the credit for the Jets place in the standings has gone to him and rightfully so.

Even though Hellebuyck has been a driving force for the Jets success they have played well in several other areas of the game.

Today Jets head coach Scott Arniel called out the media for giving Hellebuyck too much credit for the team's success and not enough to the all-around efforts of the Jets.

Scott Arniel Calls Out The Media For Not Giving His Team The Praise They Deserve

During his press conference today, Arniel spoke about the incredible season his team has had so far.

Arniel was asked about the fact that the Jets have relied so heavily on Hellebuyck to play on so many different occasions.

In his response, Arniel fired back at the media urging them to give other players more credit for the team's success.

You're being a little bit unfair to the rest of our team. We've won hockey games in a lot of ways. I know it's a little perception that because we have a Vezina goalie that's the only thing that happens. That's not true. We defend as well as we did last year. We don't give teams a lot of room to work.

Arniel then went to statistics to back up his argument pointing out the Jets top of the league power play and overall offensive success this season.

We have firepower, he continued. We have our power play that's No. 1, but our five-on-five offence has been a big part of it. We've won games in many different ways. And yes, Helle has to be there nights where there's breakdowns. That's every team. Look at the Caps. Caps are getting awesome goaltending as well

Arniel also talked about the fact that the media and fans around the NHL outside of Winnipeg still are not taking the team seriously as a contender despite lighting the league on fire with their impressive play this season.

Yeah, bugs me, the coach said. It's been since the start of the year. Gotten used to it. It's something that's happened for years. We know our fan base is right behind us. We're the underdogs - if that's the case, let's run with it. You've just got to go out and prove people wrong.

These kinds of comments from Arniel are exciting when it comes to the mentality of the Winnipeg Jets as they clearly see themselves as top contenders and want the pressure of those expectations.

However, at the end of the day, the Jets like many teams will be judged by their success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After several years of underperforming in the playoffs, it will be interesting to see if Arniel's new confidence and swagger can change the Jets' perception around the NHL.
