Winnipeg Jets targeting superstar of the Calgary Flames

The Winnipeg Jets are looking to strengthen their number two center position and adding Nazem Kadri in that role is exactly what they are trying to do.

The Winnipeg Jets need to win now, not later, so they need to do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal. Trading for a veteran centerman like Nazem Kadri would be the perfect start.

Nazem Kadri has five years remaining on his contract worth $49 million, so this would be a long-term solution for the team as they wouldn't have to worry about that position for a long time afterwards. This isn't the first time the team has shown interest in Kadri, as they tried to acquire him when the Leafs eventually traded him to the Colorado Avalanche.

Nazem Kadri won the Stanley Cup with the Avs back in 2022. He got injured during those playoffs but showed resilience as he came back to play and also scored the game winning OT goal in Game 4 that put the team up 3 to 1 in the series that they eventually won in six.

Kadri has great numbers on a struggling Flames team last season, so imagine the damage he could do on a powerhouse Jets squad. Kadri scored 29 goals and had 75 points in all of his team's 82 games.

As Darren Dreger mentioned above, Nazem Kadri has a no-trade clause and it would take a level of convincing to pry him out of Calgary, however one key point that would likely get him to waive it for Winnipeg is that he has a chance at winning the Stanley Cup with the Jets, unlike with the re-building Flames. At age 34, Kadri would likely appreciate that opportunity.

Despite the cap hit that Nazem Kadri's salary would have, the good news is that the salary cap is going up over the next few years, so his contract would take up a smaller percentage of the overall amount in the long run, which would allow the Jets the flexibility to make more moves and sign more players.
