Today a new report from a popular public NHL Draft source has revealed that several teams were exploring the idea of offer sheeting Oilers young stars Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Earlier this week the hockey world was sent into chaos when the St. Louis Blues made a shocking decision. It was announced on X that the team had sent an offer sheet and agreed to contracts with restricted free agents Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.

The decision comes as a shock due to the fact the offer sheets are almost never used. Teams generally leave themselves enough space to match any offer made by another team. However, with the Edmonton Oilers so far up against the salary cap, an opportunity was opened for the Blues. In the days following this shocking move, more reports have come out giving context to why the decision was made at this point and revealing that other teams were considering doing the same.
Blues reportedly almost faced competition to land young stars from the Oilers
In a new post on X, scout for Elite Prospects Cam Robinson confirmed that according to his sources, several teams were considering an offer sheet toward the Oilers. In the new NHL with so many teams up against the salary cap GMs are trying to find creative ways to acquire cost-efficient talent.

While Cam Robinson does not mention the two other teams interested this could start in new trend in the NHL. To this point, teams had a gentlemen's agreement to stay away from restricted free agents. If these signings end up going through without being matched all bets could be off. Once this move is finalized it will be interesting to hear from NHL insiders regarding the pulse of the NHL. If GMs are on board with this move it could create a ton of chaos moving forward.
