Last night the NHL Draft Lottery took place. The San Jose Sharks came out on top landing the first overall pick. After the event ended news came out that Gary Bettman and the NHL were forced to do the lottery four times due to the Sharks. The San Jose Sharks came into the NHL Draft Lottery with the highest odds of winning the whole thing. The way the lottery works is that there is a drawing for the first overall pick and then a second drawing for the second overall pick. The San Jose Sharks, of course, won the first drawing and got the first overall pick. However, they also won the second drawing twice forcing the NHL to re-do the process until the Chicago Blackhawks finally won for the second pick. There are supposed to be 2 draws for the 2024 Draft Lottery, only unlikely circumstances force a redraw. It's actually never happened. #SJSharks kept winning the draw, so they had to redraw after their 1st win. Sharks won first 3, finally on 4th draw, Hawks won the No. 2 pick

With their lottery win the San Jose Sharks will now likely select hometown kid Macklin Celebrini. The Celebrini family has close ties to professional sports in the area as Macklin's dad is an athletic trainer for the Golden State Warriors. San Jose Sharks receive the No. 1 pick in the NHL Draft, in which Macklin Celebrini, son of Warriors Director of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Celebrini, is the consensus No. 1 overall

Now the San Jose Sharks will head into the NHL Draft in an enviable position being first overall. Luckily they were not allowed to win the lottery multiple times with the same pick and will only hold the first pick. As the draft gets closer it will be fun to see if the hype around Macklin Celebrini coming to San Jose continues to build.
