Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie was the victim of a huge hit by Rangers forward Artemi Panarin today as the Rangers took a 2-0 series lead with the 4-3 win. Oshie did not return to the game after the hit, hurting the Capitals chances of a comeback. The hit came nearly half way through the 3rd period. At this point, the Rangers were up by two goals, but there was plenty of time for the Capitals to stage a comeback. Their efforts were stymied though when Oshie was forced to exit the game. Artemi Panarin lays out TJ Oshie 🤯 (via @BR_OpenIce)

Initially, the referees assessed Panarin with a five-minute major penalty for the hit, but it was taken off the board entirely after a review. As a result, the Rangers were not penalized at all for the play. Artemi Panarin did not get a penalty for this hit on TJ Oshie but Oshie has left the game

Oshie missed a significant amount of time in the regular season, getting into just 52 games this season. However, he still recorded 12 goals and 25 points. While he is certainly not in his prime anymore, he is still a consistent depth contributor for the team, and the Capitals will have a tough time carrying on without him, especially with the team already down two games to none in the series. Be sure to stay tuned to see of Oshie will be healthy enough to return for game three as the Capitals attempt an unlikely comeback.
