Shane Wright's junior hockey career has officially come to an end, and not in a good way. His Windsor Spitfires team was swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Kitchener Rangers as the favorites to win the series.

To give you an idea, the Rangers, the team of Canadiens prospect Filip Mesar, were one of the worst teams to qualify for the playoffs, while Windsor was one of the favorites to win the OHL title.

This is definitely a disaster for the Spitfires, as they paid top dollar to acquire Wright last January.

Moreover, a report from an unidentified source exposed the major disappointment surrounding #51: he was really ordinary during the series, especially during the most crucial moment of the season.

Here is what junior expert Mikaël Lalancette had to say about Wright:

From a scout I respect a lot:

"Kitchener was bad in the season, but took a good step in the playoffs. "Windsor is extremely disappointing. The great Shane Wright, Bof."

Seattle has also had the chance to call up Shane Wright to the big leagues after he got eliminated from the OHL playoffs, however they decided to assign him to the AHL.

Let's just say these playoffs won't burnish the reputation of the fourth overall pick in the 2022 draft, when everyone expected him to be downright dominant, having played games in the NHL, the AHL, the World Junior Championship, as well as being good on the season with 37 total points, including 15 goals, in 20 games.

Obviously, a very disappointing playoff run at the age of 19 will not dictate the rest of his career. Nevertheless, Montreal Canadiens fans will find it reassuring that he was not drafted first overall in the last draft.

It's too early to tell who will be the best player in the 2022 draft, as Juraj Slafkovsky will be looking to move up to a second level next year after missing half the season, but at this point, it's safe to assume that forward Logan Cooley is ahead of the game in that regard.
