The pandemic has been a heavy one for teams in the league, who have seen the salary cap increase to almost nothing. However, this is about to change. Interviewed after the governors' meeting, Gary Bettman had some good news to announce. Gary Bettman, after the Board of Governors meeting, said he informed the owners that very preliminary revenue projections suggested an increase in the salary cap between $87 and $88 million for 2024-2025. - Pierre LeBrun There's nothing set in stone, but it's already very encouraging, whereas the cap was increasing by very little in recent years. That got a lot of teams into trouble. 2021 - $81.5 million 2022 - 82.5 million 2023 - 83.5 million 2024 - 87.5 million (approx.) We know that the Habs will have over 20 million free on their payroll next season, with Carey Price's contract on the LTIR. Add to that another $4 million, and that gives Kent Hughes plenty of latitude to sign at least one impact player on the free-agent market.
