An unfortunate and unusual sequence led to a major injury to an official last night

During the Montreal Canadiens' heartbreaking loss to the Florida Panthers last night, there was an absolutely unfortunate and unusual sequence that occurred, as defenseman Joel Edmundson accidentally injured a linesman, and the injury looked serious.

The scene unfolded particularly quickly, as a skirmish between Joel Edmundson came to the aid of teammate Kirby Dach, hitting Radko Gudas from behind with a good double-check.

Then defenseman Marc Staal stepped in and threw Edmundson to the ice, injuring the official in question in the process, knocking him down dangerously.

The referee appeared to have suffered a knee injury and was writhing in pain. The kind of sequence you don't like to see, especially after a heated moment.
