Rafael Harvey-Pinard has stolen the hearts of many fans this year.

Yes, he has scored goals and performed well offensively, but he has done much more than that. What people love about RHP is that he gives his 100%, all the time. No matter the score, no matter the opponent, no matter his linemates, he gives his all.

All of these qualities are what will keep him in the NHL. No one expects him to score 25 goals a season. If he does, it will be a bonus. He is expected to block shots, position himself in front of the net and be the first one in check before.

And so far, he's been doing that every night.

The problem is that his contract expires this year, and it's hard to put a value on a guy who has only played 31 games (32 with the one against the Bruins) in his NHL career.

For Joel Bouchard, however, this really isn't an issue. He would be willing to sign Harvey-Pinard to a 4-year contract this summer.

Here is what he had to say on BPM Sports.

"Me I don't have a problem giving term to this guy. When you know the individual behind him, he's a passionate guy, he's a proud guy, he has everything to succeed in Quebec because he's a guy who is humble, he's a good kid, he comes from a good family, he's hard-working, he takes it seriously, he has an extraordinary sense of hockey and that's why he's playing all the positions with the Habs right now. For me, he's a sure thing and that's why I would have no problem giving him a term. I would lock him up for 4 years at 1.5 million and I would never give up on this guy. He's a Swiss Army knife, he'll play anywhere. He's a hockey player! Name me someone who thinks he's no good today and regrets that he was drafted in the 7th round."

So we'd be talking about a contract worth $6 million, roughly, over 4 years. For the CH, that would be exceptional.

On the other hand, if I were RHP, I'd turn it down on the spot.

If he signs a shorter contract, he could get a much better salary in his next negotiations. A one or two season contract at $1.5 million, I could understand, but 4 years?

That would be a masterstroke by Kent Hughes.
