In 2016, there was some question as to who between Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine would become the first overall pick in the draft. Looking back, we know that the Maple Leafs made the right choice, by far.

Toronto finished last in the NHL that year and the logic was there, as was the Habs last summer. However, there is one piece of information we didn't know about the 2016 amateur auction.

According to what Renaud Lavoie reports, a Leafs employee mentioned that the Habs came in second in the infamous abacus draw for the first overall pick.

Finally, it was at the ninth spot that the CH finally spoke by selecting defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. We all know how it ended up, one of Marc Bergevin's worst trades.
