The news has broken out that Sampo Ranta, a Restricted Free Agent (RFA) of the Colorado Avalanche, has made the decision to part ways with the National Hockey League (NHL). Ranta is set to take part in MoDo, a team within the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
Transition to Swedish Hockey League: Ranta's New Journey
Ranta shared his excitement to play in the SHL with a Tweet,

He justified his decision stating: I chose MoDo because it is a club with ambitions and a drive to achieve success. It is also a club with a lot of tradition and history. It felt like it suited me well, and I have heard very good things about MoDo and Örnsköldsvik from my Swedish friends. Going further, Ranta expressed his goals for the future: My big goal is to help MoDo win many games and achieve success in the SHL. As a player, I am driven to take steps forward. The SHL is a very good league with great competition, and I think it will be a lot of fun.
Looking Back: Ranta's Journey with Colorado Avalanche
Ranta was initially selected in the third round (78th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Following three successful seasons at the University of Minnesota, he penned his first contract in 2021. That same year, he joined the Colorado Eagles and took part in two playoff games, saying he had a prosperous career would be an understatement. Ranta was able to participate in 16 regular-season games for the Avalanche during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. However, he unfortunately did not manage to make any points with the Avalanche. His stint with the Eagles was much more prosperous, where he managed to make 43 points.
