The Chicago Blackhawks have been one of the worst teams in the entire NHL this season. Now that Bedard has been out of the lineup, they have officially fallen to dead last in the league. His return has been highly anticipated and now we now when it might come.
Bedard Personally Updates Status Of Broken Jaw
The All-Star rookie centerman addressed his injury recovery today on a panel at during the weekend's festivities. He made it clear that he is eager to get back into game action as soon as possible as he stated that he would already be back in games if it was up to him. Connor Bedard, who had jaw surgery on Jan. 8: I feel good and I feel ready. If it were up to me, I would've been back. But of course, I've got to make sure it's healed and make sure you're not risking anything out there. #Blackhawks

However, this injury is not to be taken lightly. If he were to reaggravate it by returning too early, it could see him miss the rest of the season entirely. As such, the team's doctors have been carefully monitoring him and holding him back for precautionary reasons. However. this does seem to indicate that he could return shortly after the All-Star break ends.
Bedard's Chances For Calder Trophy Hurt By Injury
Prior to the injury, Bedard was by far the favorite for the Calder trophy as rookie of the year. However, now that he's missed 11 games, his chances are falling as other rookies have caught up to him in the scoring race. That being said, Bedard is still leading rookies on a points-per-game basis and he will almost certainly finish the season leading rookies in goals at the very least. At least, that should be the case if he can keep up his scoring pace he had prior to the injury.

The Calder race could become intense as we head into the final months of the season. Stay tuned to see of Bedard is able to hold onto his lead or if another rookie can catch him.
