During one of his appearances on BPM Sports this week, former NHL head coach Bob Hartley made a huge statement during his column.

According to him, the acquisition of Michael Matheson for Jeff Petry, in particular, was a stroke of genius on the part of Kent Hughes. He calls this trade a theft by the Habs' GM, nothing less.

He also adds an interesting detail, mentioning that for the coach of the defensemen, Stéphane Robidas, the fact of having a back like this one, in his brigade, it is the perfect example for the young people who try to make their place in the league.

The excellent journalist from TVA Sports, Anthony Martineau, was also very complimentary of the Quebec defenseman, using a rather striking comparison to describe Matheson's game.

"Too often, with the puck, Mike Matheson just looks like a guy playing outside rink against 7-year-olds, without giving them a chance.

That's really the image that keeps coming back to me." - Anthony Martineau

While the 29-year-old defenseman brings a lot of stability and offense to the club, with five goals and 19 points in 31 games so far, you have to admit that Hughes hit the nail on the head with this deal.

With three more seasons at $4.85 million, he is a real bargain on the Habs' blue line.
