A real shock wave is currently falling on the Washington Capitals. The team didn't make the playoffs last year, and their window of opportunity is through aging veterans with little gas left in the tank. There are some good youngsters in the organization, but they won't be enough to get back to winning ways in the short term. And now, a star forward has asked to be traded. In fact, the team's general manager, Brian MacLellan, confirmed that Evgeny Kuznetsov had clearly asked to be traded, and that he likely played his last game with them. According to Elliotte Friedman, a one-for-one trade between Matt Duchene and Kuznetsov almost took place in recent weeks, before the Preds bought him out. This doesn't bode well for the Capitals, as the Russian's value is very low.

Washington Capitals GM Brian MacLellan confirmed to Mike Vogel that forward Evgeny Kuznetsov requested a trade. pic.twitter.com/ru5apgrPTU- Complete Hockey News (@CompleteHkyNews) July 13, 2023
