Dani and Erv Di Gusto, a father-daughter pair from Toronto, have been gaining attention for their unique way of bonding over their shared dislike of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The two have been trolling the team throughout the season by attending games wearing the opposing team's sweaters.
Roots of Their Hockey Allegiance
Erv Di Gusto grew up watching Jean Béliveau and Guy Lafleur, while his daughter Dani was a high school goalie and a big fan of Carey Price. As a result, they decided to become Montreal Canadiens fans together. They chose to support the Habs and whoever the Leafs were playing against as their favorite teams. Dani explained: That's why we decided, 'Ok, we'll cheer for the Habs and then whoever the Leafs are playing against as our two favourite teams.'
Season Ticket Holders with a Twist
The Di Gustos have season tickets to Toronto Maple Leafs games and have made it a point to collect jerseys from all 31 opposing teams. Last night, Dani purchased a Florida Panthers jersey just 10 minutes before the game between the Leafs and Panthers. She shared with The Toronto Star that she bought it at Sportchek in Maple Leaf Square. When Montreal visited earlier in the season, the father-daughter duo coordinated their outfits. Dani recalled: We had Montreal suit jackets, we wore the same jersey, same socks, same pants.
Gaining Traction on Social Media
The Di Gustos' antics have started to gain popularity on social media. Despite the trolling, Dani insists it's all in good fun and serves as an excellent bonding experience between her and her father.
