The Edmonton Oilers summer was all about solid, low-risk moves, the best of which was signing former Oilers forward Sam Gagner to a PTO after a 48 game campaign for Winnipeg a season ago.
A devastating update

Unfortunately, it appears that may now be in jeopardy, as Gagner is recovering from a surgery to both of his hips over the summer. That could reportedly keep him off the ice for training camp, and while he can practise, game time won't be an option, and it could end up costing him his role with the Oilers. Sam Gagner who had surgery on both hips will only practise in camp and won't play games. In a PT0 He will be evaluated in a month and might go to Bakersfield.

A solid veteran addition
In 1,015 NHL games, Gagner has tallied 192 goals and 519 points, and while he never became the star some had hoped, he's no doubt been a consistent force for whichever team he's played with. His last season came in 2022-23 with Winnipeg, playing in 48 games while racking up 8 goals and 14 points, and if he can get healthy, he could be a solid presence and leader in the Oilers bottom-six, but for now, it's not looking promising.
