The Winnipeg Jets are off to a great start this season with a 19-9-1 record, despite missing several regular players due to injury, since the beginning of the campaign.

The arrival of head coach Rick Bowness has literally given new life to a team that was going nowhere last year with virtually the same roster.

However, some bad news was confirmed by the coach recently, as winger Blake Wheeler will miss at least a month after undergoing groin surgery.

In addition, defenseman Nate Schmidt, who was placed on the injured list yesterday, will be out for four to six weeks.

The Jets will have to deal with the absence of two key players in the lineup for several weeks.

The team already had to deal with the absence of Nikolaj Ehlers, who played only two games earlier this season, and Mason Appleton, who has been out since mid-November. With Wheeler now out, the Jets are without their three best right wingers.

The former Jets captain was having another good season with 26 points in 29 games. Nate Schmidt is an important part of the Jets' defensive brigade, playing an average of 20 minutes per game.
