Drama to be expected in Chicago? Major update on both Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane's situation

If there is one certainty in the National League this season, it is that the Chicago Blackhawks are in an aggressive rebuild and are doing everything they can to get their hands on the next big NHL sensation, Connor Bedard.

In just over a year, the Hawks have traded Brandon Hagel, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ryan Carpenter, Alex DeBrincat, Kirby Dach, Riley Stillman, Nicolas Beaudin, and Evan Barratt, as well as refusing to qualify restricted free agents Dylan Strome and Dominik Kubalik this summer.

With several players set to become free agents at the end of the season like Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Andreas Athanasiou, Max Domi, Jack Johnson, it's a safe bet that team GM Kyle Davidson will want to liquidate these assets to better slide down the standings.

The Blackhawks are currently 31st in the NHL with a record of 15-29-4, for a total of 34 points in 48 games.

A new information could be the final straw for those who hope to see the duo of Toews and Kane, two of the players who could bring the organization a lot of money in exchange, leave Chicago.

According to Ryan Brandell of Barstool Sports, the two Blackhawks stars will not be traded this year.

He even adds that according to his sources, #88 would be back with the Blackhawks next year. However, that is not the case with the captain.

That's a pretty big turnaround, if he's telling the truth. It's a surprising statement, but not impossible either, as Kane and Toews don't seem comfortable discussing their futures publicly.

Let's also add that both Hawks glories have a no-movement clause. If they decide not to exercise it to play elsewhere by March 3, Kyle Davidson will be forced to keeping them in his lineup for the rest of the season.

That would be pretty good news for the Montreal Canadiens, especially with Toews off the market. If Sean Monahan can come back healthy to spark interest from NHL teams, with Toews out and Bo Horvat off the market, the value of the CH's number 91 is skyrocketing.

Plus, a major development with the St. Louis Blues could take Ryan O'Reilly off the trade market.

Considering that Toews, O'Reilly and Horvat would no longer be available to teams looking to add a responsible center, Monahan becomes the biggest available target in the league.

Kent Hughes must possibly be rubbing his hands together. Now let's hope the 29-year-old veteran can return to the game soon.
