In the past few days, major rumors have surfaced regarding a potential trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames, involving power forward Josh Anderson. On the subject, TSN Calgary reporter Salim Nadim Valji made this statement via his Twitter account: He's a player that the Calgary Flames have, in the past, had a very real and significant interest in, and I wonder if they could acquire Josh Anderson (salary retained by Montreal), as they look to get some more depth up front. - Salim Nadim Valji The CH's number 17 would be a perfect fit in a system like the one used by the Flames' head coach, good old Darryl Sutter. In relation to this same subject, Sportsnet's renowned informer, Elliotte Friedman, offered some new information last night, confirming certain details. He certified that the Flames would be actively looking for a trade to acquire a goal-scoring forward. A link is quite easy to make with Anderson, who doesn't seem to be in a chair to blossom well under Martin St-Louis. Friedman also confirmed that the Canadiens' big forward is exactly the type of player Calgary has been trying to acquire for quite some time now. Furthermore, the former Blue Jackets is the type of player that the Flames have shown a very real and significant interest in the past. At 28 years old, Anderson has been carrying a fairly hefty contract based on his production since he arrived in Montreal. Signed at $5.5 million per year until 2027, he is quite expensive, yet he has never reached the 20-goal mark with the Habs nor scored more than 35 points in a season. This year, he has 6 points (4 goals) in 13 games this season. With Brendan Gallagher already in the lineup for the long term and earning $6.5M per season, Kent Hughes may be tempted to sell one of his two overpaid right-wingers for their offensive production and Anderson is the one with the highest value on the market. We will have to follow this issue in the coming weeks.
