If there's one thing fans of all NHL teams can agree on, it's that officiating is inconsistent. It's an easy excuse to blame a defeat on the referees, but it's a feeling we've all experienced as fans. The point is not to pick on Bettman officials. They do a great job, but they have to keep pace with the best hockey league in the world. If they miss penalties or call unwarranted ones, it's going to happen again and again, and it's normal. They're only human. I'm talking about the NHL, but refereeing is inconsistent in every league, even the garage league near you. The European leagues have started something that will appeal greatly to fans and that the NHL could learn from. Referees will be interviewed after matches to explain their decisions during the game. I think it's a brilliant initiative, and one that will help a lot of people understand what goes on in their heads during a match. On the other hand, officials will also have the chance to explain and justify why they got a penalty wrong. Personally, I'm 100% behind the idea. How about you? Imagine Wes McCauley in a post-game interview!

Absolutely! https://t.co/uajPirh6DL- Allan Walsh🏒 (@walsha) September 5, 2023
