To say it's been a roller-coaster year for the Calgary Flames would be an understatement. After losing to the Edmonton Oilers last season, the Flames underwent some drastic changes, although many of them were forced on Flames General Manager Brad Treliving. Johnny Gaudreau left for free agency, and Matthew Tkachuk requested a trade. Treliving responded by bringing in Mackenzie Weegar and Jonathan Huberdeau in the Tkachuk trade and signing Kadri long-term via free agency. However, despite these moves, the Flames had a disappointing year and failed to make the playoffs. Additionally, there were well-documented issues between players and Flames head coach Darryl Sutter, which has led to speculation that both Kadri and Huberdeau could request trades out of town if Treliving decides to keep Sutter as the head coach in Calgary.

According to Pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading on TSN, I think what's going to happen in the coming days is that Treliving and the Flames' front office need some time to take stock because that organization is numb right now. They can't believe they didn't make the playoffs. But Treliving, individually, has to decompress and look at the fact that he's been there for nine years and ask himself if there's an offer from ownership, does he sign it? Does he move on? I think there's a lot going through Treliving's mind just like there's a lot going through a lot of people's minds in Calgary right now. Flames Insider Eric Francis would also give his thoughts saying: The question now is how many players will make it crystal clear that they're disinterested in staying in Calgary and be swapped out early, as Matthew Tkachuk was. To be fair both Kadri and Huberdeau had good seasons in their first year's in Calgary with Kadri scoring 24 goals and 31 assists. While Huberdeau struggled a bit more with just 15 goals and 40 assists both players had better season's last year especially Kadri winning the Stanley Cup in Colorado.
