The Carolina Hurricanes surprised some in the hockey world when they did not make a qualifying offer to restricted free agent forward Jesse Puljujärvi. Then it came out that the Finish forward would have hip resurfacing surgery in the offseason.
Puljujärvi Recovering From Surgery
Hip resurfacing surgery is one that has a history of significantly impacting the careers of players who get it. Patrick Kane is perhaps the most famous NHLer to get the surgery in recent years and he is still recovering from the procedure. While his fate is still unknown, it is possible his return to the league will be unsuccessful. Nik Backstrom recently announced he would be stepping away from the game while he reconsiders his options after he got the surgery in 2022. That being said, NHL insider Chris Johnston reported today that Puljujärvi is determined to return to the NHL. He is reportedly looking to return this season by December.

So far, Puljujärvi has not exactly worked out as expected since being drafted 4th overall. Through 334 career games with the Oilers and Hurricanes he has just 114 points. Last season he had just two assists through 17 games after being traded to the Hurricanes.
