The Leafs are starting the training camp, and William Nylander remains unsigned. Speculation regarding his contract and his role in the upcoming Leafs season are everywhere. An NHL insider shared insights on his situation this morning.

Nylander's Potential Move to Center?

This morning, Elliotte Friedman provided an update on Nylander's contract and the Leafs' possible interest in experimenting with him at center this season.

"Will the Leafs try [nylander] again at center? I think that is something that has been discussed."

The Leafs have previously tested Nylander as a center, giving him an opportunity last year during training camp to demonstrate his ability to handle the added responsibilities of the position. However, he typically returns to the wing due to his stronger attributes in skating and scoring.

The Leafs' Depth

The Leafs bolstered their center depth by adding Max Domi to the roster. Yet, the key question surrounding their top-six is whether John Tavares can maintain his performance level. Last season, the Leafs' captain displayed slight signs of struggle as the season progressed.

Undoubtedly, Auston Matthews remains the Leafs' top center. With Domi and Tavares in the mix, the Leafs should be well-covered at the center position in their first two lines. Nylander's optimal position remains on the wing, where he excels.
