It would be very surprising if the Canadiens made the playoffs this year. It would take an incredible amount of good news, such as no injuries, the emergence of several players and amazing goaltending performances. Anything's possible, but realistically, it's not likely to happen. If the Canadiens are destined to watch spring ball from the golf course again this year, hopes are high for the Laval Rocket. The CH's club-school will be very promising, and that's encouraging for the coming season. Two players who could help either team at the end of their respective seasons are Lane Hutson and David Reinbacher. The NCAA season ends before the NHL season, and the same goes for Reinbacher's league in Switzerland. If Hutson pulverizes the competition again this year among defensemen in the AHL, the next stage in his development could well be in the pros. As for Reinbacher, he could also come to North America in mid-March, when the chances of his team making the playoffs this year are slim. Whether with the CH or in Laval to help the Rocket in their quest to make the playoffs and maybe win a Calder Cup, both young defensemen would be great additions. Remember, the Tampa Bay Lightning won it all on the bottom before winning it all on the top, including the head coach. Jeff Gorton has raised this possibility. However, for those hoping that the CH's last first-round pick debuts in Montreal early this year, I think we can forget it.
