With player escrow payments finally coming to an end, a significant increase in the salary cap could be coming. Vegas Golden Knights GM Bill Foley is very excited about this prospect, as the Golden Knights have been plagued by the flat cap for their entire tenure in the NHL. They have had to make difficult cap moves, such as trading two of the most recognizable Golden Knights in Marc-Andre Fleury and Max Pacioretty, and they have used the LTIR system tirelessly in order to be cap compliant. Foley is happy with his depth down the middle, however, he would be looking to add a skilled winger with this cap space - if it were to come available. In an interview with Jesse Granger of The Athletic, Foley was candid about his teams' cap struggles. We had to suffer through it for a couple years. I checked with (salary cap specialist Andrew Lugerner) and (director of hockey operations Tom Poraszka) the other day and I said, «Just how much cap space do we have?» Sixteen bucks. We have 16 bucks in cap space. Source: nhlrumors.com
