We all know by now that Kent Hughes set his sights on Austrian David Reinbacher in the last NHL draft. According to many, the interest in Matvei Michkov was real, but Reinbacher was a better player in their eyes. According to Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports, it was all a show. I'll tell you one thing. The Habs were never interested in drafting Michkov. It was never in the plans, but Kent Hughes always wanted to keep his cards (to himself). He wanted to keep hope alive, they even took the trouble to meet with him knowing full well they weren't going to draft him. I think it was a poker game by Kent Hughes, because he had to make the teams believe that he might draft another player. (for trade discussions) - Nicolas Cloutier, TVA Sports These are comments heard on BPM Sports. Hughes would simply have bluffed everyone to cover his tracks. As mentioned yesterday, the Predators tried to move up to the CH's position to draft Reinbacher, the Coyotes would have taken him if he had been available at No. 6, and the Capitals were also very interested.

Kent Hughes, a poker master?😲

To hear the full @NCloutierTVA column with @AGN45.⬇️ https://t.co/4Hm98ZIeVT pic.twitter.com/TEQfpLNZGb- BPM Sports (@BPMSportsRadio) July 19, 2023
